So, it’s been a while since I posted something updating my status here. I thought I would do a quick status. Things are going pretty well. I have been keeping really busy lately. I have been at the gym 5 days a week for my circuit training and I have added classes in at least 2 a week. I am also walking 4.2 miles about 4-5 days a week. Some days I feel like all I do is exercise all morning long! But I am getting healthier and I have started to notice muscle definition in my upper arms which is really awesome. I have never really been able to make a muscle that was defined there!
I have not been as strict with my carbs lately. I always stay under 150 carbs a day, but my carb counts usually fluctuate daily. The days that irritate me most are the days I need to eat something and I don’t want to. I am probably going to crack down a bit more on that in the next couple of weeks so I can get my carb count back to averaging 100-115 a day. I have a new attitude about food. Food is not a friend or something I love…it’s what I eat to fuel my body. It feels strange to say that, but it’s exciting. I got irritated with the insurance company (again!) and instead of grabbing chocolate or something else, I told Hubby that I had to go outside to mow the lawn so I could get some exercise
I am also drinking lots more water. I usually average about 64 ounces a day if not more. I have been slowly eliminating sodas from my daily routine. I have been drinking diet for a long time, but I really want to take the sodas out of my equation too. I don’t need them and the sodium isn’t good for me!
My blood sugar levels are still doing well. They average in the 80s to 90s first thing in the morning. They usually don’t fluctuate any higher than 120…occasionally a 130. So, I feel like I am accomplishing something there! My blood pressure is doing much better as well. I am still trying not to use much salt when I cook and I try to keep my sodium in my processed food lower if I can. I know the exercise is helping out with the blood pressure too!
I am looking forward to my next weigh-in/measurement day in a couple of weeks. I really hope I am making some more headway!
And I am committing myself to walking a half-marathon (13.1 miles) in April of 2009 in Nashville, TN. It’s the Country Music Marathon. I met a lady named Betsy at the dam and she inspired me to try it. She’s going to help me train. She says by the end of the year she will have me up to 8 miles a day of walking. So, I am pretty excited to try it. Even if I try it and fail, I can at least say that I have tried it. I lean more to figuring that I will be crawling across the finish line
But it will be an accomplishment for me and I am committed to it!!
And my knee is improving. It’s almost healed. Probably by the end of next week it will just be a scar. So, I am pretty happy that it was not something too terribly serious
I’m still rocking out on my iPod. I just downloaded more music…some workout music from the Biggest Loser soundtracks and some Dan Evans. Yesterday, Hubby got a kick out of me dancing around the kitchen with my iPod while I was cleaning. I was also singing like a rock star
He thought it was adorable. I laughed
Energy levels are doing pretty well. I am still not letting excuses get in the way and I am starting to enjoy exercise. I guess that is better than hating it and still having to do it every day
I go to VA at the end of this month. I am nervous. I want Mom and my sis to be impressed. I want them to be able to tell that I have been working hard. I also have to figure out how I am going to get my exercise in that week. I have told Mom to have Kat find me some trails or something to walk during the week. I need something that won’t bore me senseless in the first couple of days. Also I think I am going to try to do a free trial week at her local Curves. (I figure they don’t need to know that I already have a gym back home!) And I am going to bring some workout videos in case the Curves thing doesn’t work out for me. So, we’ll see. I have a couple more weeks before I go, so I have been pushing it pretty hard. The next couple weeks I will probably push harder to try and get things even better!!
I am also really looking forward to my checkup in November. I really want to shock my doctor at how well I am doing and I want my new A1C number to be good. I want all my hard work to majorly pay off.
So, that is the latest adventures in DiabetesLand for me.
